KOPI, Rabat – King Mohammed VI has re-appointed Khalid Ait Taleb as Minister of Health today, October 14, a statement from the royal cabinet said. The statement announcing the appointment stated that the decision to appoint Ait Talb is in accordance with constitutional requirements, and is recommended by Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.
The decision also takes into account a petition that Rmili submitted to the government, in which she requested to “devote herself fully” to her duties as the new mayor of Morocco’s largest city, Casablanca. Nabila Rmili was appointed as Minister of Health on October 7. The official was part of the government delegation that King Mohammed VI received during the inauguration of Morocco’s newly formed cabinet.
In the last elections on September 8, Nabila Rmili secured a position as mayor of Casablanca alongside her national win. Rmili, a member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), served in several positions as a doctor, including at the emergency department of the Ouazzane provincial Hospital center from 2002 to 2005.
Today’s updates come amid controversy linked to the appointment of Rmili as Minister of health. Nabila Rmili has expressed her desire to devote herself “fully” to her new duties as mayor of Casablanca.
Many people took to social networks to express frustration on her appointment as the health minister. The controversy was on whether Rmili is able to manage both positions.
