KOPI, Rabat – The General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) transmitted, on April 1, 2021, to the French external and internal intelligence services (DGSE-DGSI), precise information regarding a French citizen of Moroccan origin, who was preparing an imminent terrorist operation targeting a place of worship in France (church).
On the basis of this information, the French authorities proceeded on April 3 and 4 to operations of arrest and seizure that have neutralized the risks of this terrorist project, according to the spokesman of the national police (DGSN) and the DGST.
The information provided by the DGST to the relevant French security services included personal data on the main suspect and her electronic identity data, as well as the terrorist project she was preparing to carry out in coordination with elements of the terrorist organization “Daesh”, the same source added.
French authorities were informed in due course that the prime suspect was in the final stages of executing her suicide terrorist plan inside the place of worship, in addition to targeting worshippers with a large sword to kill and maim them.
The DGST also provided the French authorities with information on the level of extremism reached by the woman carrying this terrorist project, including her imminent intention to commit acts of murder and beheading based on videos and digital content disseminated by the terrorist organization “Daesh,” which the suspect viewed regularly.
The sharing of this information with the French services is part of Morocco’s adherence to the mechanisms of international cooperation in the fight against terrorist organizations, the establishment of peace and stability in the world, as well as in the wake of strengthening cooperation between the DGST and the French intelligence services in the field of counter-terrorism and in the face of the resurgence of threats of violent extremism that targets the safety and security of citizens of both countries.
